Artists Statement: Digital Prints
This series of large scale prints originated as video frames from my installation, "Wave Transformations." The prints use the video frames as the beginning of an investigation into the nature of transformed realities. The merging of nature and technology has made it possible for me to further my vision as an artist. I have been interested in abstraction revealed by natural phenomena since the beginning of my artistic voyage. My experimental work in moving image media led me to explore the potential of digitally processed still images.
My intent in realizing these prints was to examine the impact of a single frame becoming a symbolic reference of its primary source, however as the work progressed, the video frames became powerful images on their own. Some of the video frames lent themselves to extended manipulation, others remained singular. Each image addressed a new interpretation of the nature of water. The wave became a metaphor for creation.
The digital prints were produced on the Colorspan large format giclee printer using archival inks, printed on canvas. They have been treated with Optima UV coating and are resistant to moisture. A number of the prints were part of the Millennium exhibition of my work at the NY Hall of Science.
