Smilow Cancer Hospital Lobby Gallery

Excerpt from Yale-New Haven Hospital, Bulletin:

’I am here’ meadow vividly floats above Smilow lobby

More than 4,000 colorful paper flowers — each containing a message of hope and love written by patients, family members, friends and YNHH staff — now hang gracefully above the Smilow Cancer Hospital lobby. Noel Sardalla, a graphic design student at the University of New Haven and volunteer in the hospital’s Art Expression Program, captured the comments in workshops over the past year. Called "I am here," the cornucopia-shaped art installation was unveiled at a celebration on May 9 at which the Yale Medical Symphony Orchestra played. At the reception, Dana Shaffer, assistant, Complementary Medicine, thanked Sardalla for his unique work that brings a visual message of encouragement and beauty to all patients who are fighting cancer. Shaffer helped organize the event with Volunteer Services. The installation will be on display through July.
