Janet Nolan
Cancan
2007
Recycled plastic bottle caps, wire, plastic straws

10 x 20 x 2 feet

The sculptures are constructed by threading aluminum wire through the centers of plastic bottle caps and small plastic objects. These parts are grouped in a repetition of color patterns along loopy armatures of flexible wire. Ends of the wire are then mounted directly into the walls creating a grouping of tensile structures.

Installation of "Cancan" evokes images of the ruffled skirts of a chorus line. Or viewed through a naturalist eye, a web of fanciful spiders may come to mind or possibly a complex DNA model.
