Photography was an important tool in Dulah's works. She made many trips southwest to New Mexico from the years 1900 through 1905, photographing Native American subjects that would later be used as the basis for her paintings and prints. "The Deer Dance," taken in Tesuque, New Mexico, is an example of several of such photographs. This image would later be used by Dulah to create her oil on canvas titled "The Deer Dance," circa 1906.
