To me, art is a way of rendering the invisible visible. My imagery may have a surrealistic feel, but I would describe myself as a Magical Realist in the tradition of Latin American authors such as Jorge Luis Borges and Isabele Alllende. I would go a bit farther to say that where Surrealism explores the psychology of the individual, Magical Realism doubts the nature of accepted reality. In my own work, I attempt to go beyond the individual psyche; and explore the nature of awareness and perception.
I specialize in "interactive art," even when I work in traditional media. For some years now I have been working on paintings in series: once limited to diptychs and triptychs, I have been more recently executing sets of panels that serve as one painting. These are often made this way so that they can be later interactively rearranged. Some of the other "series" work involves painting the same painting 3 or more times; there is an inevitable variation in execution. These can be also displayed together and rearranged, or displayed separately. The paintings range in size from 8" square to 5 x 7 feet.
