Galerie St. Etienne
- Additional Information -
June 5 through September 28, 2007
As is traditional, the Galerie St. Etienne’s summer exhibition features RECENT ACQUISITIONS, while also recapping highlights of the past season.
In a market characterized by dwindling availability, the gallery has been particularly fortunate to have acquired major works by Oskar Kokoschka, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Emil Nolde and Egon Schiele. The RECENT ACQUISITIONS exhibition also highlights a stellar group of watercolors and drawings by the German artist George Grosz, as well as pieces by Max Beckmann, Lyonel Feininger, E.L. Kirchner, Gustav Klimt, Käthe Kollwitz and other Expressionists. Leonard Baskin, who will be the subject of a one-man show at the gallery this fall, and contemporary artist Sue Coe are also featured. In the area of self-taught art, the exhibition includes works by Ilija Bosilj, Henry Darger, Grandma Moses, Michel Nedjar, Bill Traylor and others.
RECENT ACQUISITIONS is documented by a comprehensive checklist, which is available free of charge by mail or can be down-loaded from our website www.gseart.com. The accompanying essay contains the Galerie St. Etienne’s annual “state of the market” report, which this year discusses the recent upsurge in art prices, as well as the pros and cons of a collector-driven market.
