The 1997 Biennial Exhibition
- Additional Information -

For more than 60 years the Biennial, and its predecessor, the Whitney Annual, has been the Whitney's signature exhibition and the premier showcase for the most important developments in recent American art. The 1997 Biennial is the 69th in the series of Biennial exhibitions, established by Museum founder Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney in 1932. This exhibition is curated by Lisa Phillips, curator, Whitney Museum, and Louise Neri, U.S. editor of Parkett. More than 200 selections by approximately 70 artists -- drawings, paintings, sculptures, film and video works, photography, installations, printed media, dance, performance, and sound -- will be on view, most for the first time in the United States.
