Nelly: From Athens to New York
- Additional Information -
Featuring the work of Elli Souyoultzoglou-Seraïdari, known by her pseudonym "Nelly," this exhibition celebrates the photographer's committment to capturing the people, landscapes, and ancient monuments of Greece with her camera. She began her career as a professional photographer in Athens in 1925 developing a style of photography that remained closely connected to painting. Her techniques such as bromoil and carbro printing, required intervention with a brush, and produce a diffused, impressionistic effect. Shifting from outdoor shots to indoor studio portraits with ease, Nelly's subjects ranged from Greek farmers laboring in the fields in traditional dress to glamorous models and actresses in the latest fashions of the day.
