Word and Image: Collaboration

June 21 - July 9, 2005
Opening reception: Thursday, June 23rd, 5-8 p.m.

The inspiration or impulse to create art may come from a number of places, a beautiful scene, a song or a line of poetry. The artists of the Blue Mountain Gallery decided to work on a group project that would embody the spirit of collaboration between the written word and the visual image.

Over thirty artists will participate in this group show that runs June 21 through July 9, 2005. Each artist will interpret the theme of collaboration between word and image in accordance with their discipline. Blue Mountain prides itself on a wide diversity of artists and a high quality of artistic excellence which should be evident in the exhibition.

For this exhibition the artists have stretched the idea of collaboration to include more than the traditional method of working side by side on text and image. The words have come from friends and the famous, contemporary and historic. Some of the paintings, prints and sculptures include text within the artwork. Others have the related text posted near by.

There are two readings scheduled by poets and writers connected with artworks in the exhibition:
Saturdays, June 25 and July 9 at 2 p.m.

Blue Mountain Gallery is located at 530 West 25th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues, on the fourth floor. Gallery hours are 11 to 6 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday.  Information about exhibitions and gallery artists can be found on the web at:
