Morris Graves
- Additional Information -

At age 87, Morris Graves painted a series entitled "The Five Seasons" (originally intended for a Shinto shrine.)  A single branch in blossom; a pile of stones; mushrooms; winter brush in the eclipse of the sun.  The fifth emblem, "All Seasons," is monochrome - an empty vessel emanating pure white light.

Unlike the formal arrangements of fruits and flowers so elegantly painted in the 1980s, these humble totems are the whisperings of the changing moods of nature.  Here is an artist breathing the present moment, a dimension beyond time.
