Ynez Johnston
- Additional Information -

These terra cotta wall hangings start as wet slabs of clay that are then inscribed with linear designs. Once dry, Ynez paints the clay with colors made from natural minerals. Over-painted and incised, twice fired and glazed, the tablets become impervious to weather, heat, cold, sun and rain. Each ceramic seems to hold a secret story, a tale of adventure, some ancient wisdom.

Ynez Johnston has always worked in mixed media and loves a rich array of surfaces - from silk to cement. Nearing 80, her impulse for discovery and magic finds new life in the miracle of fired clay, creating jewel-like objects to buoy imagination.
