A Scandinavian Sensibility
- Additional Information -

browngrotta arts exhibited diverse fiber works by artists from Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Iceland.

Working with familiar -- and not-so-familiar -- materials, these artists offer an exciting view of contemporary fiber art made by Scandinavian artists abroad and in the U.S.  Pantyhose, pinecones and rubber are among the unexpected materials chosen by these artists to create the refined geometric and graphic images that so often identify Scandinavian design.

Among the wide variety of works included in the exhibition:
Tapestries by Swedish -- now American --artist, Helena Hernmarck, recently awarded a medal from the King and Queen of Sweden; thread paintings by Ulla-Maija Vikman of Finland; felt banners by Kristín Jónsdóttir of Iceland; constructions of paper and wood by Jane Balsgaard of Denmark; vessels of panelled wood by Kari Lønning, whose family hails from Norway; willow baskets by Markku Kosonen of Finland and large-scale wall works by Løvaas & Wagle of Norway, made from, of all things, pantyhose.
