The Well Wrought Urn
- Additional Information -
(for Morris Graves)
Ancient vessels were ceremonial,
Lofted by druid, rabbi, priest.
Once the temple of the body shone
Like the dwelling of the Holy Ghost:
A lonely vigil before the altar
Cleansed the knight for his quest.
In the silence of the ornate urn
Princely dust was laid to rest.
Now such rites diminish, spectral
As the spider's web test our steel.
Past spirit, we long for lost ritual.
Brightness of flowers on a lit table
Ignites memory of goblet, or grail:
Each petal frail, but powerful.
